Listening mindfully

Direct your attention this week to listening. Do you listen when someone is speaking to you? Or are you already thinking about the next sentence, the next formulation? Do you already have answer ready because you know what someone is going to say?

Reflect on the following three principles of listening:

  1. Listen positively and empathically – be in contact with your conversation partner with open mind and open heart. Step into their shoes.
  2. Listen from the future. Feel what the best future would be for your dialog partner. How could they flourish?
  3. Power of silence and presence. Remain completely silent and present in a conversation. Don’t interrupt moments of silence. Let them be. They can be sources of insight and creativity. We often miss them.
